Inmate Reentry Programs of the Federal Bureau of Prisons

The central mission of the Federal Bureau of Prisons is to support a successful transition into the community for federal inmates. By doing so, the Bureau protects public safety by making sure inmates receive programming to help them make a successful reentry into the community. The Bureau offers national programs that are standardized across all institutions. The programs are implemented with dedicated resources and are regularly reviewed to make sure they are at a certain level of quality. Programs are developed and sometimes modified to best meet the needs of specific populations, such as the Residential Drug Abuse Treatment Program specifically geared to address the treatment of female inmates.

At the bottom of this article there is a link the Federal Bureau of Prison’s program catalog that highlights their national programs. Many Education and Vocational programs are available, such as a literacy program, English-as-a-Second-Language, Occupational programs and even parenting programs. Along with these, the Bureau offers Psychology Services programs that are helpful in dealing with drug abuse, mental health, sex offender treatment, etc. A Chaplaincy Services program for Life Connections is also available.

Additional information about these programs can be found by visiting the Bureau’s website: www.bop.gov.
